progress...

Well starting to make a bit of progress now. Buckled down a bit over the last week, 2 rides last weekend, one small one in the week and I've now done my first commute to work. Wasn't too bad but man I was knackered on Friday!!! There was a few people that nearly fell off their seats when they asked how far I cycled. I love that ha ha! It makes me feel quite proud. I measured the climb through Meriden. It's long, anywhere between 2 and 7 % and it don't let up. Pressure on the legs for four miles (".) Must admit sometimes when I'm busting a gut up a hill I wonder why I love cycling hee hee. But I wouldn't wanna not be able to climb that hill, so I suppose this is it... for life (",) Good job I love it really! Plus there is something inspiring about burning 2500 calories on one return commute journey heehee

I've even managed to inspire a couple of people at Hinckley. And there lies another story. No lockers at the Ops Centre and no showers or lockers at the Project Office. Was starting to piss Facilities off by insisting on a locker (they didn't want me to have one in case everyone wants one!!! so fukin what? tell 'em they can have one if they cycle 22 mile). This is totally different from Warwick, there is a locker in nearly every nook and cranny and about 70 people cycle to work!! So I've got together with a guy called Richard and we've asked the Chief Exec if we can set up a TWUG (two wheel user group) like they have in Warwick. He said "send me an email and I'll kick some ass" hee hee. it's not what you know, it's who you know and all that malarkey. Facilities think I've given up but I've just made a tactical withdrawal hee hee.

What does a TWUG do?

it's a bit like a "union" for cyclists. a user group that supports cyclists and motorcyclists, they hound the company directors to provide us with facilities (such as lockers and showers) ask local bike shops to give us 10% off, provide us with route maps, safety talks etc, sometimes gets the company to fork out a few quid for equipment (lights etc). just basically promotes commuting to work by bike. usually run by one or two cyclists employed by the company. at our warwick office we have over 100 cyclists, so they need someone to speak to their behalf.
